The ancient village of Castleton is the only place in the world where Blue John stone can be found. There are many caves are open to visitors - Speedwell Cavern boasts an underground boat ride. Castleton also boasts a Visitor’s Centre and Museum, a Norman castle built in 1086 by the son of William the Conqueror, Mam Tor the Shivering Mountain and an Iron Age settlement. There are numerous gift shops / pubs and places to eat in the village. There is also a chocolate farm!! Castleton has excellent bus and train links to Manchester and Sheffield with scenic road links.
